Can I bring my child with me to uMfolozi?
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate children under the age of 6 at Mthembu Lodge and under 10 at Biyela Lodge, unless by special prior arrangement. Both of our lodges are unfenced and the safety of our guests, especially children, is our top priority.
Can my child accompany me on game drives?
Yes. Children of 6 years or older can enjoy game drives if staying at Mthembu Lodge. However, no child under 10 staying at Biyela Lodge may join a game drive. All children must be accompanied by their guardian at all times while on a game drive.
Does uMfolozi offer child-minding services?
There are no child-minding services at uMfolozi. Young children are to be accompanied by their guardians at all times due to our lodges being unfenced.
I am planning a safari holiday for my multi-generational family. Which lodge do you recommend?
We recommend that you book-out Mthembu Lodge on an exclusive-use basis. Mthembu Lodge’s villas are grouped closer together and are closer to the main lodge.
Can I drive myself to uMfolozi?
Yes. Guests can drive to the town of Empangeni and then use Google maps to locate the entrance to uMfolozi, Biyela Gate. From there, guests will be transported to their respective lodge by uMfolozi staff.
Please drive with caution. The road to uMfolozi is uneven. We recommend that you only travel by 4×4 vehicle if driving yourself. Please also be conscious of wildlife on the road at all times.
What time does the main gate close?
The gate closes at 6PM.
If you are flying into Durban, please ensure that you have catered for enough travel time after your flight as the drive to uMfolozi takes 3 hours.
If you are going to arrive at uMfolozi after 6PM, we recommend that you stay overnight in a Bed & Breakfast in the nearby town of Empangeni. We will gladly assist you in organising a booking.
Is there secure parking for my private vehicle at uMfolozi?
Yes. There is secure parking for your vehicle at Biyela gate.
